Moving into Week 8

The Year 1 students have been extremely busy during the last two weeks completing their final assessment task for our first unit of inquiry - "I'm In Charge". Utilising all of the knowledge that they have acquired over the past 6 weeks they have each planned and constructed an unsafe scenario. They have also recorded ways to make that situation safe as well as suggesting what type of first aid they could administer if there was an accident. Both classes have come up with a variety of unsafe situations and their dioramas and plans are displayed outside the year 1 classrooms. You are most welcome to view them before or after school.

Our next unit of inquiry is titled "Going Places." Show and Share for Week 8 will have a transport theme. We would like the children to share a form of transport - past or present - with their classmates. They can bring in a photo, a book, a model or just share an experience about a form of transport (no Keynote presentations please!). As two of the key concepts of this unit are form (what is it like?) and function (how does it work? what is it used for?) it would be terrific if the children could describe their chosen mode of transport, identify what its purpose is and briefly outline how it works.

Show and Share for Week 9 is free choice.

Please check with your child that they have a hat at school. There are several Year 1 students who do not currently have a hat and this means that they are relying on other children to supply them with a hat. We enjoy being outside and utilising our school property as much as possible and waiting to locate hats for children who do not have one impacts on the class time.
